'It' bags are an age old tale. We get hooked on a bag – sometimes influenced by a celebrity's devotion to a designer style – and voila, it's balanced on shoulders or securely gripped in the hands of fashion lovers everywhere.
Carrie's collection of Fendi baguette bags in Sex and the City inspired a Fendi frenzy in the early Noughties and, thanks to Gen Z's penchant for Y2K fashion, they're officially back. Then Alexa Chung single-handedly sent Mulberry's satchel style flying off the shelves.
But lately, the high street has dominated the trend, with affordable bags getting the obsessive treatment. Take Uniqlo's crossbody bag, for example: it went viral on TikTok for its easy everyday aesthetic, Mary Poppins-esque capacity and purse-friendly price tag,
But there's a rival fashion must-have courtesy of COS that's grabbed our attention and taken over our social media feeds.
Utilising the hands-free ease of the messenger crossbody style, COS' quilted bag has a few stylish twists; the half-moon shape is supersized and the quilted texture brings a luxe quality to proceedings. Sustainable too, it's made from 100% recycled materials.

Eagle-eyed fashionistas have taken note of this trending shoulder bag, naming COS' oversized style 'the Uniqlo bag for the fashion girlie'. With a similarly spacious design, ideal for carting your bulky everyday essentials or for city break trips and weekends away, it's been on our radar for a while now.
It's cultivated the same mass takeover on TikTok with the hashtag #cosquiltedbag gaining 34.2 million views – as well as famous fans including Blackpink's Jennie posting photos with the bag to her Instagram stories. This also means, of course, that the bag is quick to sell out.
Currently, the bag is only available in off-white on the COS site, so we're waiting with bated breath for the restock of black, blue and silver. However, the Scandi brand's AW23 newcomer in leather is available to shop now.
The premium £350 price tag means it's more of an investment piece compared to its soft-material counterparts. But in black and brown colourways and adopting COS' signature classic style, it'll live in your wardrobe forever. There are also the chic mini leather quilted bags, £225 – ideal for travelling light.
